Unhappy

Hi all,

I tried once again to install RedHat 7 and have teh same problem once again. The base install seems to go well for the most part.

I ran Xconfigurator to try to get my video up and running but to no avail. When it checks my video card it finds somthing that looks like this for my Hercules Prophet II MX

Chipset: NVidia chipset (which is correct)
X Server: none
Mode ?? :nv

I selected a generic monitor with the lowest possible setting 640 x 480 @ 8 bit

I have tried every combination of settings and no luck
It always comes up with the same error when Xserver tries to run to test the settings. Can my card work with the generic NVidia drivers supplied the distro or do I need specific drivers for my 32 meg Hercules card.

Any help would be much appreciated !!

TIA Pimp

Hercules

Your card should be supported with what comes with RH7, but you can go to NVDIA's site and download their newer drivers if you want to give that a shot.

What is the error you receive?

Basically when I run Xconfigurator and configure my vid card and monitor...the program says it will run XServer to test the configuration I have selected. It starts for like 2 seconds then a screen pops up saying that XServer could not be started.

Then it advises me to go back to re-do the configuration manually (which I had just completed) and no matter what settings I select for custom monitor it will not set it up properly.

I don't know if the problem is my Goldstar Studioworks 77i monitor or it is with my Video....It doesn't tell me what the error is only that XServer could not be started !!

TIA Pimp

setup

Its been my experience that that means your vid card is not set up properly or you have the wrong driver picked or something. If your monitor is setup wrong, it usually just gives you like a black screen or a flashing screen or something.

Try running 'xf86config' instead of 'Xconfigurator'. Try using the NVIDIA generic setting for whatever chipset you have.
