question about IMAP and root user

I know about aliasing root to another user, but curious is imap contains a security feature that does not allow root to connect remotely to its mailbox through imap? some documentation stating that would be helpful too, but a concrete answer on this is good

note: imap does work all other non-root accounts can check email successfully
