Unhappy poweroff problem


I try to turn off my compuer (user@comp$ poweroff) and stupid machine halt
--------------------------------------------------------
user@comp# poweroff
The system is going down for system halt NOW !
INIT: Switching to runlevel: 0
...
...
...
power down
--------------------------------------------------------
"system halt but computer is still on"
--------------------------------------------------------
user@comp# halt -p
The system is going down for system halt NOW !
INIT: Switching to runlevel: 0
...
...
...
power down
--------------------------------------------------------
"system halt but computer is still on"
--------------------------------------------------------
this problem start after trying command "halt"

What distro are you using? Did you try the shutdown -h now command?

dude 100 tons of such post surf over LQ you could have searched, but anyway. I have seen you use Slackware, so APM support comes right with the kernel ( if you haven't recompiled it) you can edit your rc.modules and uncomment there line:
/sbin/modprobe apm
or something similar
or u can make an alias to "poweroff" command:
alias poweroff="/sbin/modprobe apm; poweroff"
that should work

a litle suggestion, go to your profile and right the distro u r using so fasilitate other people answering routine

pixelV....nautilus_1987 is correct here. If we know what the distro is, it might save some time next time there's a problem. Just my .02.
