Postfix Errors

I keep getting these errors in my postfix log when I try to send a test message to myself. All of the messages I have sent from various email addresses are located in the queue and are never delivered.

Code:
Aug 4 11:53:37 host postfix/virtual[32030]: fatal: gethostbyname: Success
Aug 4 11:53:37 host postfix/virtual[32031]: fatal: gethostbyname: Success
Aug 4 11:53:38 host postfix/virtual[32033]: fatal: gethostbyname: Success
Aug 4 11:53:38 host postfix/virtual[32034]: fatal: gethostbyname: Success
Aug 4 12:26:57 host postfix/virtual[348]: fatal: gethostbyname: Success
Aug 4 13:00:17 host postfix/virtual[1173]: fatal: gethostbyname: Success
Aug 4 13:00:17 host postfix/virtual[1172]: fatal: gethostbyname: Success
Aug 4 13:16:57 host postfix/virtual[1574]: fatal: gethostbyname: Success
Aug 4 13:16:57 host postfix/virtual[1575]: fatal: gethostbyname: Success
Aug 4 13:33:37 host postfix/virtual[2010]: fatal: gethostbyname: Success
Does anyone know what these mean, or what I should do?

Thanks.

Postfix - The Definative Guide by Kyle Dent published by O'Reilly

In the meantime, Postfix is an MTA not a POP/IMAP server and so will only deal with sending your message to another MTA or to an associated POP/IMAP server. My guess is that you haven't defined a POP server or the local domain.

Did you edit /etc/postfix/main.cf ?

Really, get O'Reilly if your serious about this.

Yes.. I am well aware that postfix is an MTA not a pop/imap server.

As far I I know, the MTA is also responsible for delivering the message to the correct user on the system.. correct? I am not having trouble accessing the mail, It is not being delivered properly. All of the messages that I sent to users on the system are still in the Postfix mail queue.

Nevermind the errors.. I don't think they are related to the problem I am having.

no. Postfix will not deliver messages to people's inboxes or mail directories.

You only mention problems with messages to be delivered on the localhost so am I to assume that emails sent out to other hosts work fine? That would be a huge clue to a lack of a local pop server. I used QPopper but there are lots to choose from.

Yes. I am able to send messages to any other host successfully. I am using courier as my pop/imap server. I'll have to check courier's configuration.

Good luck with that.

If it looks impossible give QPopper a whirl as it slots up nicely with Postfix and is nicely simple.
