Hey all,
We have a Postfix mail server running on a Fedora1 machine that is being used only for outgoing mail. We process information for others and send results and reports out to them continually througout the day. However, Postfix has been having some problems. Firstly, our scripts that send the messages connect to the server with a simple HELO command. Usually this is working, but sometimes it's just unable to connect. Then, when it does connect, sometimes it's getting disconnected for some unknown reason. The maillog file shows:
Quote:
Outgoing postfix/smtpd[12795]: lost connection after HELO from unknown
|
And then, sometimes it also gives this message when the connection does stay active:
Quote:
Outgoing postfix/smtpd[12805]: too many errors after HELO from unknown
|
The weird thing is that these errors don't show up all the time. Most of the messages are sent out with no problems, but sometimes these show up. There isn't any other information in the logs that I can find about why this is happening, so I don't know what to do to fix it. Any ideas?
Also, I'm also seeing this message occasionally when sending to the domain ballengergroup.com:
Quote:
Outgoing postfix/smtpd[12839]: warning: no MX host for ballengergroup.com has a valid A record
|
It then puts it into deferred status and comes back with a "try again" message in the log. Again, this only happens sometimes, but the majority of the time it sends the message just fine. This domain does have an MX record set up (mail.ballengergroup.com) that resolves to an IP address, so it sounds as if the records are there. Is there something I can do or set that might help me avoid getting this message from time to time?
If there's anything you need me to post (config file info), please just ask.
Thanks.
