hm... no, actually i meant how do you get pico to display line numbers... kinda like typing

in the command mode of vi.

You got me.. I just took a gander at some of the documentation, and I see nothing mentioning this feature (I guess cursor position works?).

Here is an exerpt from the man page:
The editor has five basic features:
paragraph justification, searching, block cut/paste, a
spelling checker, and a file browser.
I think that it is saying it works great for simple text editing, however it's not nearly as powerful as the almighty vi or vim

I have been using vi to tweak conf files and I have been fairly happy with it, but I cannot seem to figure out how to create a file with it
Well, If you still want to use vi(m), just type "vim filename" and if it doesn't exist, and empty file called "filename" will be created in your current directory ready to be edited
