openoffice spellcheck

so i've had openoffice installed for a while, but i just noticed that the spellcheck doesn't work. no matter what word i type in, whether it's slightly misspelled or complete jibberish, openoffice never says it's spelled wrong. i checked out their site and put the dictionary files where it says to, edited some of the paths to the dictionaries, checked the dictionary.lst file n made sure it looked alright...

it'd be nice if it would work, so i wouldn't have to always reboot and spellcheck with ms word...if that's all i can do, then i'll just use word.

okee...thanks.

Check: Tools>Options>Lang. Settings>Writing Aids. Settings: active? Check: Tools>Spellcheck>Autospellcheck, is it active?

I meant activated, as in every checkbox checked. And if all are, then I don't know why it won't work. Guess that's a question for the OpenOffice mailinglist...
