Netscape crashes loading java site

I have Netscape 7.1 and when trying to download the java vm from Sun I get the following error after clicking "Get It Now!"

Gdk-ERROR **: Fatal IO error 9 (Bad file descriptor) on X server :0.0.
INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Could not read ack from child process
System error?:: Resource temporarily unavailable

What's up with that?

I think that means the Java plugin you're trying to install was compiled with gcc-2.9 and the browser was compiled with gcc-3.2. At least, that's what it means in Firefox.

Actually, I wasn't trying to install, just download Java to put on a Windows machine that didn't have java installed. Konqueror did it for me; I have no idea why Netscape had a problem.
