Need help with gcc installation

I just downloaded gcc-3.3.1 and when i run ./configure i get this:

./configure: line 8: cc: command not found
*** The command 'cc -o conftest -g conftest.c' failed.
*** You must set the environment variable CC to a working compiler.

what should i do first?

I think you might have to install the old gcc from your discs if you have it. I dont know which distro you have but on red hat you go to system settings i htink and then add/remove application and then go into developement tools and check the gcc box. if you dont have red hat then maybe there is a similar way. if you do and you did it the ./configure command should work. im not real sure about it though but thats how i installed my compiler. hope this helps

What is cc ? do you mean gcc?
