Nagios question

# NSCAHOST = Nagios Host

NSCAHOST=10.1.100.101

# /usr/sbin/send_nsca -H $NSCAHOST -c /etc/nagios/send_nsca.cfg

Error: Timeout after 10 seconds

When the above works, as above it times out after 10 seconds on a Nagios client which is expected.

But on a different client it fails with following message.

# /usr/sbin/send_nsca -H $NSCAHOST -c /etc/nagios/send_nsca.cfg

Error: Server closed connection before init packet was received

Error: Could not read init packet from server

What am I missing here ?

Firewall blocking the second client's IP from reaching NSCAHOST on the appropriate port?

Are both clients in the same subnet?

Are you sure the second client is using the interface outbound that you think it is?

Later I fixed it by adding client ip in nagios-host:/etc/xinetd.d/nsca file and then restarting xinetd.

''only_from = 127.0.0.1 10.1.100.100 ....''
