Mplayer install kicking my @ss

Greetings,

I am about as new to linux as you get, and despite all the cursing that flows out of my mouth, I'm enjoying the learning experience. I've got a problem, though, that I can't seem to figure out nor find any documentation on anywhere. So here goes:

I'm running FC3 on a Dell Inspiron 8100, 1.4 Ghz, 512MB, NVIDIA Geforce2.

I went to rpm.livna.org, imported the GPG key and added the yum repo to my /etc/yum.conf file.

Then, as root, I typed yum install mplayer. It proceeded to add the 3 livna repo's then said:

Nothing to do.

So, I figured it must already be installed, so I ran mplayer, and all I got was a list of commands, which unfortunately for me, isn't very useful yet.

I also tried yum install mplayer-fonts mplayer-skins but it tells me there is no match.

Any ideas on what I can do to get the full gui for mplayer(gmplayer i think it is). Any help would be appreciated.

I have less trouble with mplayer when compiling from source then when using yum. Here is the site I followed when new to get mplayer and set it up and spells it all out for you.
http://ghaefb.fedorausers.org/howto01.html Also if you want a good site to help you set up yum so you can get mplayer and everything else follow this site. http://stanton-finley.net/ Good luck and if you have more questions feel free to ask away

I forgot to add also setup Apt and Synaptic also on the site with yum.Once you have done it like they say it will give you a Synaptic Package Manager under system settings where you can add packages to your hearts content.

make sure you add kplayer to your list

its much better than mplayer and i think its based upon mplayer

i never could get mplayer itself, but once i got kplayer, mplayer was buried in there somewhere, but i no longer have my mplayer-gui

and i am only about 5 minutes older than you in fedora, and i have pulled all of my hair out
