Hi everyone.. i hope that this will be a pretty simple question about mplayer.
I installed it the other day, and everything went well -- except that i forgot to install the GUI aspect. Now, id like to install it, but i cannot find the ./configure to isntall it with, and i would rather not install two copies of mplayer... can someone help me? (or am i just a lost cause?)
if it's the same version just redownload it, run configure again, ( optionally you can do "make uninstall" to remove your old one if you want) re-build and re-install. note that you cannot always do this, but if the software is the same version with pretty much the same options you should be alright. ( in this case iirc it adds another directory in $PREFIX/share and the gmplayer executable).
Run ./configure --enable-gui make make install Download a skin for it and unzip then copy the new directory into your mplayer skin directory /usr/local/share/mplayer/Skin .Also rename the directory to default and mplayer will use it from there. When you run for the first time chances are you will get a error message about fonts.Go to preferences and the font tab and browse to /usr/share/fonts/default/Type1 and pick the first one ant that will fix that. gmplayer to launch it.Don't forget to download the all codec pack and put in /usr/lib/win32 and if you don't have it make it and mplayer will use the codecs from there.
hi...my dist is fc3,when i ./configure --enable-gui this error apears :
Checking for GTK version ...
Error: The GUI requires GTK devel packages (which were not found).
Check "configure.log" if you do not understand why it failed.
what can i do????????pleaze help me
if he installs mplayer yeah, but he's trying to compile it in which case apt will not automagically install the development packages. he's gonna need the -devel packages ( at least glib-1.2 and gtk+-1.2, more depending on your configure options).
okay, so i have yet to get the GUI working, and kind of gave up on it, learning to use the console verison instead, and all was fine. Then i tried to watch a dvd and it all went downhill. Before this week i was able to watch divX and Xvids, but this week i tried to watch a dvd, failed, and now i can listen to movies that i have already watched on my computer, but i didnt change anything [that i know of?].
So i came back and re-read this whole post, and here are my results:

and then, this is what i get at the end of running ./configure --enable-gui
Code:
Error: The GUI requires GTK devel packages (which were not found).
Hello...we've been telling you to download and install gtk-devel packages. Search in Google w/o the quotes "gtk-devel rpm". It should be version 1.2 or something like that. Install that package and everything should be fine. Make sure you have your fonts, codecs, and skins installed by following the manual. I run Fedora and I got my GUI working.
Awesome, thankyou for that [and sorry im so slow ]... now the next question is probably very close to laughable, but to run the mplayer GUI, you use the command "gmplayer" correct? if so, its telling me that it doesnt exist...
Is it possible to do everything mplayer would offer by using both xmms and xine? I just got both of those working, so maybe i can just skip mplayer all together
