OK, so i downloaded MPlayer for linux, i installed it and got no errors, i downloaded and installed the font and skin for it - still no errors.
When I open files from the terminal window and type...
mplayer filename
it works fine, but when i open the GUI and try to play the same file it says...
Error opening/initializing the selected video_out(-vo) device
and won't play the file! i looked on the mplayer web site for help but no joy, why does it give me an error with the GUI but not when using the terminal window?
type gmplayer -vo help
then u see what are available. xv is best, xshm is most likely to work, others are fun.
play around with options until one works well, once inside go to settings and choose a perminent choice.
wkd, it works now cheers guys, just a quick question though, how do ya stretch the image to full screen? if i press f it makes it full screen but doesnt stretch it
I am not sure I know what you mean? you mean the whole screen is tacken but trhe image stays the same size? are you trying to make it stretch outside its aspect ratio?
well, when i play some files, the size of the window it plays in is quite small. When i make it full screen all that happens is the screen (which the file is playing on) stays the same size and it blacks out the rest of the background. I wondered if it is possible to stretch the screen to the same size as my monitor
it should by default. the problem may be in the video files themselves, maybe they specifically prevent sizing, or maybe mplayer can't scale there format. type man mplayer and look at the scale options
lol, worth a try! Well at least one of them works fine. Some of my .avi's are bad quality anyway, nuthin to do with the player. Thanx 4 the help though, can watch matrix now
