mplayer codecs and directories

hi
i downloaded the codecs from mplayer site, this is the list of codecs
qt6dlls.tar.bz2 rp8codecs.tar.bz2 rp9win32codecs.tar.bz2
qtextras.tar.bz2 rp8win32codecs.tar.bz2
rp9codecs.tar.bz2

r these all win32 codecs? if they all win32 codecs , i should place them in /usr/lib/win32codecs, right?
if my mplayer is already compiled should i recompile it again to have support for new codecs?
if any codecs not win32, should i just put them in /usr/lib ?
and a simple question, what should i use to unzip and umcompress tar.bz2 file?

thanks

check the README and INSTALL file, it's all there.
And to decompress a bzip2 compressed tar:
tar -jxvf <filename>
