mixer or audio output not working


Ok i have an Soundblaster awe 64bit ISA sound card in a debian 3.1 system.

i ran alsaconf and it failed for the module,
i get an snd_ctl_open failed for default device.
what is going on i've been working on this for a really long time and cannot get it to work!!!!

really getting frustrated.

yes i've ran alsaconf and modconf, yes i have alsamixergui installed.

What do you mena "it failed for the module"?

It failed to load it, it failed to produce sound...?

What module does the card use? Have you checked the results of lsmod for that module after bootup and after you issue alsaconf?

Let me have a bit more info and hopefully we'll have you up and running soon
