audio mixer in mandrake 10.1

My system hung when I was playing a video file in Mandrake 10.1. When I restarted my system during the booting I got the message
"Opening audio mixer alsactl [FAILED]".
I now cannot hear any sound from my system(audio is not heard).
What do I do to hear audio from my system.

Try running alsamixer as root. It may be just that the volumes have been reset to zero. You could also try following these steps:
run drakconf
go to hardware -> hardware
select your card under soundcards in the list of detected hardware
click 'run config tool', then click 'troubleshooting'.
This will give you a set of proceedures to follow to determine where the problem may be.
