Normal for Fedora 14 is to not play audio/video that requires non-free codecs. That being said, take a look at rpmfusion for most of your needs, and atrpms for libdvdcss
you need to install ALL NON FREE code
fedora dose NOT ship wit hit .
ps for dvd playback you need libdvdcss -- not free to distribute in the usa - it breaks the DMCA and possibly the patriot act

I am not a lawyer.
There is no 'hard and fast' answer, but I dont believe that dvdcss is outright illegal under the DCMA. Without a test case, which has never happened, its hard to say for sure but I believe that dvdcss would be covered under 'fair use'.
BTW, seen the 2010 exemptions?

frankbell's suggestion to use vlc player is good, but on openSUSE I have found that too many players may cause certain problems here and there, and the least amount of redundant programs is a preference for me. A simple installation is more reliable and easier to troubleshoot. For example, I have a dual processor workstation with sound and video cards, and a USB expansion card. Almost all of the hardware outputs are extremely long and it is hard to tell what is what.
RockDoctor's complaint of not being free is commendable, but we got the os for free and the Fluendo package plays virually everything and is only about $30.
I broke down and purchased Terabyte's Image for Linux after trying the free version. It is fast, works every time, and has saved me countless hours of trying to repair an installation after experimenting or installing updates or programs. The user manual is understandable and support is available. Good deal for only about $30 as well.
For me this is good since I am working with Pocketsphinx and Festival and trying to get them to work together with Python. Mistakes will be made, so in 5 minutes I could restore to the point before and start over right away.
RPMfusion has all the stuff you need and a one-click install facility. Also, once their repository is enabled (their site does that for you), you can use your installer to get Gmplayer, which is much more reliable than Totem.
