Hey-
i know that it is an annoyance to several people the way Gimp organizes itself into several windows. Is there a theme or something that can make all gimp windows be contained in one parent window?
I'd like to know the answer to this myself. Sorry for posting without an answer, I just wanted to be copied on any responses. It is annoying that a new instance of Gimp is created every time an image is opened. I end up with several Gimp processes all with windows that are quite confusing.
the other solution is wait for the gimp people to come out with a new version that's not as annoying. do a google search of gimp multiple windows or gimp "multiple windows" for more info.
Just use a different virtual desktop, that's what I do and it works pretty well.
GIMP will probably not be supporting MDI ever. GTK+ can't do it, for valid reasons - it's got very poor usability and there are better ways to achieve the same effect.
Another thing you could try is playing with layers of your programs. There are some windows I always need, for example the one with the brushes and all other options and some I need less like the layers window. So I make the main window always on top and in a virtual desktop so I don't have any trouble.
the docking feature is not what i mean.. I'dlike to be able to minimize or maximize one window, and have everything go up or down with it. And only have one entry in the task bar. The program works great, its just a minor annoyance that i guess i'll have to learn to live with. So far, using virtual windows is about the best suggestion there is..
