Managing SQUID

Ey guys,

I've just setup my squid web proxy. I was wondering if there is a way to monitor usage of each users using the proxy. For example, I would like to know the sites and duration visited by client. The only thing that's bothering me is, I need to input the proxy name and port to webrowser to connect to the net. What should I do to make it connected right away? Like the wingate. Hope you can help me on this.

There's plenty of log file anaylsis tools for Squid, check out http://www.squid-cache.org/Scripts/ for an overview. Try some out until you find one that provides all the info you need.

As for connection settings, you should be able to set the proxy ip address + port number in the settings for your browser, which will vary depending on browser. What clients are you running - if it's a windows network, group policy can be used to deliver these two settings to all machines, regardless of the browser in use.
