# Common e-mail tools
sendmail - postfix - sends mail to local users (and internet when configured correctly)
fetchmail - gets mail from internet accounts (non-Hotmail type)
procmail - sorts and delivers into separate mailboxes
mutt - mail client that sucks less than all the others

Email-Server

Personally I don't like Sendmail-procmail too much. Very difficult to configure properly and a security risk if you don't stay on top of it.

Qmail is a better choice IMO. Go to http://www.qmailrocks.org for a complete list of items needed and a very thorough getting started guide.

I would really recomend postfix. It's not easy but MTA (Mail Transport agents) are not easy.

Posfix makes the most sense once you figure it out and you should be able to find some good howto's online.
