Lotus notes 7 on wine hangs

After much of the approval and convincing BS, I recently installed Kubuntu 7.04 on my office PC. The intention was to use Linux fulltime at work. This would include using email program, network printers, accessing network shares, accessing MS servers through remote desktop app etc.

However, i am not able to access my emails from here. I tried installing Lotus Notes v7 over wine and using it. But, it works fine only a few minutes (that too if i am lucky enough) and then simply hangs... no activity.
An alternative method would be to use email through web browser. However, it seems the Notes server is configured to work only on Internet Explorer. So i installed ies4linux and tried accessing it. Surprisingly there too, it would not allow me to access the email. As soon as i click the "inbox" link, it throws me the error - "The session has expired. Please retry the current operation after you reauthenticate". Reauthentication again lands me up in the same loop.

My sole intention is to access my emails through Linux. Please suggest a way to do this.

Is there a way i could correct the Lotus Notes (through wine) problem?

edit: are there other programs available for linux which could be used to access Notes email?

Lotus Notes R7 is supposed to work with Wine v0.9.19 and later.

Do you know what version of Wine you are using?

The following page suggests using the Crossover Office version of Wine for Lotus Notes.

Or you could download the latest version of Wine from the same page and install it.

Also I believe that Wine comes with Internet Explorer v6. If not then I know for a fact that Crossover Office does include Internet Explorer 6 because I've used Crossover Office in the past.

The wine version i was using was among the latest. However, i updated wine to the latest available version and tried running lotus notes. Same problem prevails. Then i installed crossover office. Same problem there too... however, IE seemed to work perfectly there. I removed crossover office just to see if i can run IE and Notes on wine v0.9.19. Neither works there. :-(

There appears to be a linux client available as well.

Here's a pretty detailed howto on the install: http://www.nsftools.com/NL7/

The linux server was pretty stable back when I used it; might be worth investigating.
