lose settings in new kernel

So I downloaded the 2.5.67 Kernel and Rusty's Mod utils as told by a member. So if I have to replace my mod files, will I lose all my kernel settings? I dont really want to have to go through the countless pages re adjusting again. If I do lose all my setttings and choices, is that a way to easily print out my settings or save them to a text file.

use make xconfig

make xconfig has commands to load a configuration file and to save a configuration file. You can use these commands to save all of your kernel configuration files under different names.

Before compiling your old kernel try running typing "make oldconfig". I think that is right. It will produce a config file that you can load after you type "make xconfig". This will load all your current kernel settings for a starting point.

Could you guys tell me how to install the mod utils and kernel source. The old kernel source was installed via package, so it was automatic.

I would assume it would be similar to redhat. Run your package manager and locate the package you require on your distro CD and hit install.

No, im talking about the new 2.5 kernel. I already have the origional source installed fine. It was a package, but unfortunatly, theres no slackware package for the 2.5.67 kernel.
