Question knetworkmanager issue

Hi There,

From time to time I loose my WiFi connection (for example a power cut)
and i have great difficulty re-connecting with knetworkmanager. It prompts me for the password and tries to re-connect - omly to report that the connection attempt has failed.

The only option that I have is to reboot which is a big inconvenience.

How can I configure or restart knetworkmanager using the command line after losing a WiFi connection ?

regards,

Steven Matthews

I used to have the same problem except I didn't loose connection just sometimes on boot up it wouldn't catch and I'd have to reboot. I've moved on to Slackware64 and I haven't had that problem to date.

Here was a suggestion given to me when I had this issue by toreric.
On the other hand, there may be a possibility to use ifconfig/ifup/ifdown after boot with network not always fully configured (happens to me just now sometimes, don't know why, after upgrade to ubuntu jaunty). The procedure I use is:

sudo ifconfig [tells that my interface IS configured but lacks IPno]

sudo ifdown ath0 [brings my Atheros card down in order to make next possible]

sudo ifup ath0 [brings it up and aquires an IPno from my router; did not succeed at boot, why?]

Hopefully, the WLAN should function now, and you may see an IPno with another ifconfig if all is in order.

Also I am using wicd on my machine. It works pretty nice and a little more user friendly than I remember knetworkmanager being. Might want to consider it as well

There is a 're-connect automatically' option somewhere that you should try.

Further to the point, Knetworkmanager got a complete re-write recently. The previous version, as I understand it, was a crude-ish hack of the Gnome network manager to work with the kde infrastructure (and I've found that the Gnome Networkmanager seems a bit more robust...just don't like Gnome, I'm afraid). The most recent version, which comes with kde 4.3.2 or later (approx...I'm not exactly sure when the change came, but it must have been around that time) does work rather better for me, so there is a case for the latest version that you can get and see if that helps.
