Kernel 2.5.49 module loading problem

Im trying to get kernel 2.5.49 to load modules and if i run modprobe, insmod or depmod I get:

QM_MODULES: Function not implemented

Searching on google I cant find that error associated with that kernel version, so im wondering if its a config or modutils version problem.
Ive followed the instructions in Documentation/kmod.txt and have all of the three new loadable module options checked. Anybody successfully running this kernel version, or have a guess as to whats wrong?

Well, I do love iptables

Thanks for the reply.
I had an OOPs at boot on 2.5.46 an couldnt get 2.5.39 to boot at all, I think part of the problem there might have been scsi emulation for the HPT 370 chipset in my motherboard.
Anyone had much luck using any of the later 2.5 kernels?
Im itching for a preview of 2.6

A few issues ( such as ALSA barfing, but hey, it does that anyway :-) ) but otherwise no real dramas... something breaks and something gets fixed with each ver, but thats the joy of devel kernels :-)
