KDE hangs after logout (black sreen)

After i logout of my KDE session. It does not come back to the text terminal. I do Ctrl-Backspace, Ctrl-F1 and does not do anything. Doing Ctrl+Alt+Del will reboot the machine.
I have looked at the threads in this forum but nothing seems to work or apply to my problem.

I you need the contents of my xorg.conf file or any other config file just ask!

Thanks!

Hello,

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate circumstances.

Try pressing ctrl+alt+1 or 2. This will bring you to command terminal.

A possible source of your problem could be your soundcard configuration. I have had many problems exiting KDE if there is a problem with the sound card.

Keep us updated,
Mords

Hello

Probably your DCOP server dosen't start . If U can , try renaming .kde file . On doing this ,
you are telling the machine that you are loging in to KDE for the first time . Input you login name and passwd and start working .

Please let us know if this works

I logged out of KDE and tried many time Ctrl+Alt+1 and Ctrl+Alt+2 and did not do anything.

I blindly type startx and X started back without any problems.. Did that twice (startx) and it works perfectly. It seems to be a resolution, moniter problem ? Any ideas.

DCOP server is for sound ?

I unmuted my sound and set the volume to max and does not work in XMMS. Also selected the alsa output in XMMS. Maybe there is something i missed.

Sorry for the vague response. But i probably did xorgconfig. I am not at home right now to do a locate for xorg. I remember picking something from that to make it work.

I can get the contents of the xorg.conf if you want it.

Thanks again!

If you configured the system yourself, you just need to make sure that you set up the computer with the correct video card.

Backup your xorg.conf file and change it simple configurations (VGA or VESA generic monitor and very small resolution etc.)

Let me know what happeneds.

About the sound, try entering "alsamixer" at the command line to get a better picture of what mixer options you have.

Hi,
I have not been able to do much to try to fix the black screen problem.... I will try to post my xorg.cong next week.

But a bit of good news... I Installed the Kmix application and found that i Needed to unmute the Headphone in the mixer to hear the audio.. Master does not do anything..

Weird but it works.

Thanks for the help!
