Is there a fast way to view (not manipulate) an X session on a remote machine?

Hello,
I run "Orbiter" space simulator with "winex-cvs" and I
like to capture vids of it with "xvidcap"
"Orbiter" is hard on a machine though, so I must play at
640x480 in order to get even a jerky capture.
I've cobbled another (lesser) machine together to try
doing the capture on it.

Best laid plans, you know.

"VNC" is much too slow on the client side.

"NX" is really fast, but while I can run an X session from
the client - I can't "watch" one being run on the server.
If I could, "NX" would probably work.
The simulator will not run from the client with "NX".

In a fit of genius, I tried TV out to TV card.

Best laid plans, you know.

The quality is bad. (go figure)

The TV out/in test was done all on one machine and if
nothing else, I got a nice screenshot:

I still havn't given up on the TV just yet

If any one has any ideas on this subject, let 'em fly.
I can't help but think I'm missing an easy solution.

I'm working on that now.
It's quite easy to use a machine to run apps on another.
What I still haven't figured out is how to run apps on
one machine and watch it (like a video) with another.
I can do it with KDE Desktop Sharing, which is vnc I believe,
but it is way too slow.

I'm not sure I follow this. Let's say you're using xine to play a video. Can't you simply login to machine X (either through X forwarding through ssh or setting the DISPLAY environment variable) and run xine, which will send the output to the X server on the "viewing" machine?

If the viewing machine is a Windows machine, you will need an X server for the Windows machine (WiredX is a free example).

I'm confused by your "run apps on one machine and watch it with another" comment.

EDIT: Ok, I think I understand what you're trying to do now.

See if XDMCP will work for you. XDMCP will give you a graphical login as if you were sitting at the console of the remote machine but whichever client machine you're actually sitting at. If you can get a XDMCP session running, I believe you will be able to take your screenshots as you desire. The only issue will be performance of the video over the network (outside of establishing the XDMCP connection, in the first place ).

Peace...

I hope my question was not confusing.
I can get a bit winded. (windy?)
I want to play a game, and make a vid of game play.
It's too much work for one machine.
I'd like to play on one, and capture on another.
I want one machine to be a viewer only. I don't want
it involved in running the game at all.
I'm just some guy who still counts on his fingers and toes,
but so far, vnc seems to be the only thing capable.
It doesn't bog the machines down, but it is really slow
over the lan. Too slow.
It seems as though nx and x forwarding, while running apps
on the server, use x on the client.
