installing cheese the photobooth application

hi all,
I am using fedora8. I tried compiling the linux photobooth program cheese2.24, it gives a lot of errors during the ./configure step :- (the last few lines where the error is reported are )
Quote:
checking for CHEESE... configure: error: Package requirements ( glib-2.0 >= 2.16.0 gobject-2.0 >= 2.12.0 gio-2.0 >= 2.16.0 gtk+-2.0 >= 2.10.0 gdk-2.0 >= 2.12.0 gnome-desktop-2.0 >= 2.25.1 gconf-2.0 >= 2.16.0 gstreamer-0.10 >= 0.10.20 gstreamer-plugins-base-0.10 >= 0.10.20 libebook-1.2 >= 1.12.0 cairo >= 1.4.0 dbus-1 >= 1.0 dbus-glib-1 >= 0.7 hal >= 0.5.9 pangocairo >= 1.18.0 librsvg-2.0 >= 2.18.0) were not met:

Requested 'glib-2.0 >= 2.16.0' but version of GLib is 2.14.2
No package 'gio-2.0' found
Requested 'gnome-desktop-2.0 >= 2.25.1' but version of gnome-desktop-2.0 is 2.20.1
No package 'gstreamer-0.10' found
No package 'gstreamer-plugins-base-0.10' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables CHEESE_CFLAGS
and CHEESE_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.
Most of the requirements seem to me like gnome upgrade. I presently have gnome 2.20.1.
If I upgrade to a new gnome , will that cause problem for my existing applications ? Also is there a repository for gnome 2.25 which will auto resolve all the dependencies and I should be good to go ?

thanks in advance
nishith

Are you sure it's not in fedora repositories?

what we have in fedora repo is a older one cheese-0.2.4 and it doesnot seem to work on my system. I wrote to the forum and they say that upgrade to cheese-0.24.0 and also upgrade the gstreamer plugins to 0.6.20 or above.
that is why ?
thanks

I know it doesn't answer your question, but perhaps, you could upgrade fedora. I've got fedora 10 beta - the stable version should be out still in November. It has cheese 2.24.1
