Talking installing TES3Morrowind with wine (do i need cheese?)

Hi-ya! Steadfast Nix Newb and Gamer here.(OS: Mandriva 2008)
Trying to install TESIII Morrowind using wine-1.0-rc3.
1) I mount the CD.
2) I traverse to the place of mounting.
3) I use wine to run the setup like so: "wine setup.exe"
4) I get an error:

> The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be installed.
>
> The folder '%SystemDrive%' could not be created.
> Make sure that you have the appropriate priviledges to create this folder,
> (0x13)

"Huh?!" says I. However! This one is a smart newbie. I did some research and discovered that "iKernel.exe" is actually "ikernel.ex_"...
so what?
"well, it has to be renamed or something" says I.

So with a spark of... insight, perhaps? Probably not.

5) I copy&paste all the files from the CD into a full permissions folder.
6) I try to install from there: "wine setup.exe" (same old, same old)
7) I get a slightly different error!! YES!

> An Installation support file '%SystemDrive%\Program Files\Common
> Files\InstallShield\engine\6\Intel 32\corecomp.ini'
> could not be installed. (0x8000ffff)

What, ho? An error in the terminal also?

[seth@localhost MorrowindCDROM]$ wine setup.exe
errle:marshal_object object doesn't expose interface {be6115a1-7de5-48dc-ad2a-25060e00fce2}, failing with error 0x80004002
err:rpc:I_RpcReceive we got fault packet with status 0x80004002
errle:ClientIdentity_QueryMultipleInterfaces IRemUnknown_RemQueryInterface failed with error 0x80004002

(Oh no! now you all have my name!)

When I traverse to "%SystemDrive%\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\engine\6\Intel 32" there is nothing there.

odd? I have no idea.

so to make a long story short: shit happens, hits the fan, then I dropped the ball.

who can help me out?

You should start by checking the wine AppDB to see what others have gotten working and/or had problems with. It may help you track down the problem.

I got this working without too much hassle. I don't remember the issues, it was long ago, but everything was solved by cheking the winedb, as suggested above.

Mk, I looked through the AppDB and found that no one had problems with installation.

I'm going to try reinstalling wine, prehaps then it will work.

I'll come back with the results.
