Question installing *.prc files on my handspring visor?

hello all:

i have configured "Pilot Link" to work with Ximian Evolution in updated my schedule, addresses, etc with my handspring visor, but i have been unable to install any new palm applications (*.prc files) onto the handheld unit. i have tried the distro "pilot-" scripts, such as pilot-xfer, but have met only failure. here is some info:

-> /dev/ permissions ...
crw------- /dev/ttyUSB1lrwxrwxrwx
lrwxrwxrwx /dev/pilot -> /dev/ttyUSB1

-> have tried ...

$ pilot-xfer -p /dev/ttyUSB1 -l

ERROR: No such device
Unable to bind to port '/dev/ttyUSB1'
Please use --help for more information

THANKS for any help or suggestions here!
