HandSpring Visor + USB Cradle + KPilot

Is there a good faq or step by step setup for using kPilot to sync to a palm on a USB cradle. I'm running RedHat 9. How do I get the USB daemon to autodetect it? Any help would be great.

I have the same question regarding a handspring treo 90 and redhat 9. I know there are problems with the USB core kernel module that cause some sequential access devices like the treo to lock up on synchronization, but I was thinking I saw somewhere that a patch was coming out. Has anyone had success syncing this device?

I had the same problem

I had this same problem. I think shrike (RH9) comes pre-installed with pilot-link--especially if you have GnomePilot or KPilot installed. If not then do a search for pilot-link-0.11.8.tar.gzip on google. That was recent about 3 weeks ago when I did this.

I had the hardest time figuring out what to do, but finally I su'd and did a

Code:
# cd /dev
# ln -s /dev/ttyUSB1 /dev/pilot
I don't know that this is what everyone should do, but it worked for me. Even when I went through settings and changed them manually to /dev/ttyUSB1 in JPilot I couldn't get it to work. However, this symbolic link did the trick.

Hope I've helped...

Oops

Actually you don't need the cd /dev since you're using absolute paths. Oh well.

When you have your Handspring Visor in your cradle hit the Hot-Sync button on your visor then at a virtual console type dmesg | grep usb and the last line you see should tell you which USB port it is linked to.
