Ok, I'm posting what is probably answered elsewhere, but for some reason my searching skills are failing me. Every time I think that I'm onto finding an answer, it turns out to be not quite what I was looking for.....
Well then, onto the question. This is my first real attempt to try linux for anything more than mere dabbling around.
I have SLES9.2, and have hooked up Yast to a suse mirror (so the rpms are all verified for my build). I am trying to update various packages on my machine, but am getting errors where a previous version of a particular component is required over this newer version that I am trying to install. An example:
hwinfo 9.31-1.1 conflict
Required by:
sax2 requires libhd.so.9
and
Conflicts with:
kdebase3-SLES requires libhd.so.8
I am concerned regarding this conflict about the libhd.so.8 and libhd.so.9. Is there a potential problem with my KDEBase3-SLES using the libhd.so.9? (I say this in the spirit of any package, not just the KDEBase)
