installation of Linux on a SATA drive

I installed Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 4 Standard Edition on a HP dc5800 PC with a SATA drive.

To install the system I use the boot option: Linux pci=nommconf

After the installation is done The system is hangs while uncompressing the kernel.

the boot loader is GNU GRUB:

root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.9-55.ELsmp ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet
initrd /initrd-2.6.9-55.ELsmp.img

It hangs on: uncompressing Linux... OK, booting the kernel

Someone can help me?
Thanks!!

Is there a reason you are using "pci=nommconf"? Have you simply tried booting without it?

Similarly, is there a reason you are using such an old version of Linux? A more modern build would probably work better.

A newer distro would help a lot but see this thread. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...-2-duo-479778/

MS3FGX, the reason why I used pci=nommconf because otherwise I couldn't start the installation, it hangs at a certain point.

The reason for this version of Linux is becuase of a application that runs on this version.

Jefro, I followed the link you gave me and it works. The system is up and running but it doesn't see the network adapter.
Can someone help me to configure the network adaptor.
