Hi all!
A newbie to linux I am trying to install Fedora in a HP Kayak dual PIII 600 I got this system with no OS and don't know if it is a system problem or where to go from here. I boot from the disk (CD) on my other windows machine and it brings up the fedora loader screen. When I boot on the HP I get a message kernal not found and then a a prompt
Boot:

I don't know what to try from here Any ideas would be much appreciated!
Thanks! hope it is not to dumb a question.

Emery

Install Trouble more info

The exact error I see is:
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
ISOLINUX 2.06 2003-08-22 Copyright 1994-2003 H Peter Anvin
could not find kernal image: linux
boot:
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Other time will just get
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
ISOLINUX 2.06 2003-08-22 Copyright 1994-2003 H Peter Anvin
boot:
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
then I can type linux and it will start to install but says there is something else it can't find

It seems very inconsistent. Could this be a problem with the cd drive not working properly?

Thanks for your help,
Emery

More info

Hi hope this is not spaming. I changed my aproach and here is the new problem. I posted it under Hardware

HArd drive Trouble?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi I'm new to linux and just installed Mandrake 10.1 on my system. This is a new used system for me and I'm having trouble with it booting up. Sometime the system will boot up fine and other times I get a no operating system found error. I might get this error for 10 to 20 tries and then miraculously it boots up fine and will work for who know how long. I cannot get it to repeat the problem right now. I have had this computer running for three days. I had initially tried to install Fedora Core 5 but could not get the install program to run. I guess I'm wondering if this may indicate a faulty drive or controller and if there is any tests I could do to try to determine the nature of this problem.
Thank you,

Emery Palmer
