How to make on access scanning in linux using clamav?


I want to make on access scanning enabled in clamav.How to do it?Is it necessary to enable on access scanning?I use only a Desktop Pc for day to day activities.

You can enable on-access scanning following instructions found here.

Scroll down to the sections labeled Clamuko:

Is dazuko available in debian squeeze?
What about the following softwares
1.clamfs
2.avfs

What are other ways and other options which are to be included i clamav for on access scanning,scanning of downloaded files,etc., as in windows full antimalware protection.Or these precautions neede or not?
