Gnome3 dead - Fedora will boot only to the command line?

Hi there,

I'm relatively new to Linux. Installed Fedora 19/Gnome 3, and after spending a week getting used to it, decided that I loved it.

I've just tried to remove Evolution Mail using the yum GUI. Clicked through the confirmations, and then the screen went black. I saw a brief error message about usb failure.

When I try to restart, it just drops me back at the console. Gnmome 3 appears to be dead. Typing "startx" stops at "Loading extenstion GLX". Followed by a series of errors about not being able to access the keyboard.

I have console access. What can I do to get Gnome 3 back?

Andy

Well, I never noticed that yum had an undo feature. Of course, I've only been using it since the beginning of the millennium

That can be a catch with Fedora: you have to look very carefully at what dependencies yum or package-kit thinks it needs to remove.

I didn't know about that either. I'd have uninstalled and re-installed using yum.

I have been using Fedora for awhile now. I do all my updates, package installs and so on from the command line. I never realized that yum had an undo feature either. That is great to know for my future screw ups, however rare they may be ;-)
