FTP problem on Intel SS-4000E NAS

I have an issue with a Intel SS-4000e NAS. It runs a IPSTOR proprietary Linux version and - my best guess - PureFTPd. For some reason it can only be accessed from LAN IP's. I'm looking for a work-around for this so I can access the server from the Internet. I'm thinking either hacking the software, but without building a new kernel. Editing existing files on NAS is OK. If software hacking is not an option I was thinking about a two-router set-up where router 1 has WAN-side to Internet and LAN side to router 2's WAN port. LAN-port on router 2 would connect to NAS. Would that work? I'm unsure about set-up off routers. Would appriciate help on this one. Thank's (also posted in the networking forum)

If SS-4000e NAS has ip ;suppose;192.168.10.1

and you are able to access it from 192.168.10.2

Now you want to access 192.168.10.1 from internet i.e outside your LAN;then you should have a LIVE/Public IP to access.

Suppose your router has Live IP(61.245.25.1) then using Port Forwarding you can access it.

Now it depends on your router if it supports port forwarding;which will forward request on 61.245.25.1 to 192.168.10.1

refer this links:

http://www.wikihow.com/Set-up-Port-F...ng-on-a-Router

if you dont have Live IP then you can use the one provided by ISP(if available)

Thank You for the reply. I have a public IP and port forwarding on the router is OK and accessing other FTP-servers from internet to local net works just fine. The issue is that the FTP-server software running on the SS-4000e is somehow limited to only allow connections from local net IP's therefore dropping connections forwarded by the router from the internet. I was wondering if a two-router setup with seriel portforwarding could fool the FTP-server into believe the connection was requested by a local net IP. Another option could by to edit the pure-ftp config-files to edit out the "local net IP's only"-limitation. Problem is: I don't know how portforwarding and FTP protocol are interacting. How is IP passed on? Furthermore I don't know which pure-ftp file to edit, which line or switch to change. I hope someone can help. Thank You.
