Freenx server works right, client seem to have problem.

I installed freenx in my Debian linux.I try to connect from my winxp machine using nomachine windows client (tried an old version and the new 2.0whateveritis) and everything goes just fine, pass authorization, link negotiation etc etc, but the program just don't show up the linux desktop. task manager shows nxclient working, my debian shows the client connected using the correct user, but my I see nothing on screen. I tried older versions of the client but i get the same results. Does anyone know other windows client for freenx that I could try or have any idea of what my problem could be? I have configured the client to use a custom desktop and just use the default X system in the server. I would appreciate any help.

Hi,
first sorry for above 3 blank post.

I have Debian Etch and have installed this:
freenx 0.5.0-2
nxagent 1.4.92+1.5.0-11
libxcomp1 1.4.92+1.5.0-11
libxcompext1 1.4.92+1.5.0-11
nxlibs 1.4.92+1.5.0-11

from deb http://debian.tu-bs.de/project/kanotix/unstable/ sid nx

And everything work great for me. I tested this with NX Client 2.0.0-98 and NX Client 1.5.0-138.
I tested it with FreeNX 0.4.4+0.4.5-4 and work good too.

If i use NX Client 2.0.0 i must use some hack in nxnode to work for me.

If somebody have problem with NX Clients versions 2.0.0 and FreeNX 0.4.x or 0.5.0, i wrote some wiki. You can watch and edit it here:
http://openfacts.berlios.de/index-en...roblem_Solving

or here:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/Talk:HOWTO_Fr....4.x_and_0.5.0

You can try purge freenx. Delete /var/lib/nxserver directory, delete /etc/nxserver directory. Fresh install freenx from source above. In windows uninstall NX Client, in home directory ( C:\Documents and settings\%yourlogin or something else ) delete .nx and .ssh directory. Fresh install NX Client. If you use 2.0.0 client use hacks, which is described in wiki above.

Hope that will help.

I got tired of trying and I installed Cygwin in my xp win and started using ssh sessions. But I'll give it a try to see if frenx it's better. Do you think freenx is better than ssh the X sessions?

First it is about bandwidth of connection to server.
Second you can suspend and reconnect to suspended session with it.
Third it is much easier for configuring.
