If you open Preferences, on the General tab, what have you got in the Home Page box? This should be the URL of the site you want to go to when you click the Home button.

For the History, have a look to see what you have set on the Privacy tab. There are three options there, one is to never remember history. I use the Custom setting, and set the number of days I want Firefox to remember history. Adjust those to your liking.

I've also gotten nothing when hitting the home button on Firefox 3.6.10 on my Slackware partition, my Ubuntu partition, and my Vista machine for the last several days. Internet Explorer does still go home, but not Firefox on three different installations. When I changed the home page to something else, it still does nothing when hitting the home button.

In case it helps any:

What camorri wrote about the home page setting should be correct. But if that's not working (for some weird reason?) check in your about:config page (enter about:config into the address bar) and in the search bar there, type the word home. This should produce a dozen or so items.

See that you have an entry: browser.startup.homepage
That's the one that's tied to the Prefs -> General -> Homepage setting. If it's empty, something else gets used instead (see below):

If that's empty, I believe one of startup.homepage_welcome_url or browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone takes over, but I could definitely be wrong about these.

FWIW I am currently using FF 3.6.10 also, but my home button works fine (though I don't actually have it on my GUI as I don't use it).

I just got my home button working again. I had an Add-on called Newtab King that I disabled and that solved it for me. Then, at Newtab King in their forum they already had an update 4.0.9a link to fix 4.0.9 and that did work and the add on is enabled again and working.
