fail to install ndiswrapper

Hi ofcourse that i'm new, i've been working with fedora 4 and i'm trying to install ndiswrapper from the internet and it says that i need to extract the program by typing: tar zxvf ndiswrapper-version.tar.gz

What i'm not sure of is where can i save those files so i can extract it later on. i've tried downloading it on to the desktop ant to the hard drive but when i imput the command it says:
tar: ndiswrapper-1.7.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2

What do you suggest i do regarding this problem.

Thanks

When you do this from a shell, are you in the dirrectory that ndiswrapper-version.tar.gz is saved in? You need to be in the directory where that file is located, try "cd /path/to/it/" and then in that window do "tar -zxvf ndiswrapper-1.7.tar.gz". If you don't know where the file is saved, try "locate ndiswrapper-1.7.tar.gz" (make sure you update your locate database beforehand though by typing "updatedb" or "locate -u" as root).
