Emacs no longer works

I tried to use emacs and got the following error

[root@localhost linmix]# emacs /etc/fstab
No fonts match `-*-fixed-medium-r-normal-*-*-*-100-100-*-70-iso8859-2

If I try to start emacs from the taskbar it waits a bit and then just closes.

does anyone know what's wrong or how to solve this problem?

re-install EMACS

From the error, it seems to be missing its font! Did you change the font settings for X Windows recently?

I added window fonts and changed a few system fonts towinfonts,but all fonts are available. I did an apt-get (re)install of emacs (showed some dependancies which I believe I resolved) but still not working.
