CUPS updates offered for Jaunty

Update Manager offers me CUPS updates. Last time I accepted CUPS updates I ended up unable to print. Is there any way of reversing the action of updates that have such an effect. Last time I had to reinstall Jaunty from CD.

You can put the relevant packages on hold. I don't know how to do that on an update manager but it's dead easy to do with aptitude on the command line. In any event if you search the menus of the update manager you should be able to find "hold" under "actions" or some such label.

I should mention that I regularly update CUPS and I have never experienced the problem you describe. Are you sure it's a CUPS issue?

Cheers,
jdk

Latest cups update worked fine here. Besides, you don't need to reinstall when something breaks. Just point your browser to localhost:631 and reconfigure.

Thanks

Thanks for these answers. I cannot find anything in Update Manager that would allow me to put items on hold, but I'll find out what apt command is needed. As for localholt:631 -if I had knonw about that it would have saved a lot of reinstalations. Thanks again.

Reason #231 not to use the update manager. Please read my message carefully.
Use aptitude not the update manager and run
Code:
man aptitude
to find out how to put packages on hold.
