Convert ASCII text to an audio file

Hi,

I would like to convert ASCII text to an audio file for playing on a flash media player. I have used "text2wave" to generate wav files and play them on my PC. I have not converted them to a file type suitable for a flash media player. Here are my questions.

1) Is "text2wave" the best program under Linux to use? If not, what would you recommend? I would consider purchasing software for this if I could get a significant improvement at a moderate cost.

2) What flash media player would you recommend? I understand that there are a variety of players that use a variety of file formats.

3) What audio file format would you recommend? Should I use "text2wave" to make one audio file and then convert it to another type?

4) After converting the ASCII text to an audio file, should I "clean up" the audio file (i.e. try to improve the quality)? If so, what program should I use. I have not done any CD ripping.

5) What sampling frequency would you recommend?

I am running a 64 bit machine with SUSE 9.2 and redhat FC4.

Ed

If you have a wav file, you could use any of the standard encoding tools (LAME, et al) to convert this to an MP3.
