Computer become hang when left idle for few hours

I installed ubuntu 11.04 few days ago but the system is not working properly. When i leave it idle for few hours and try to reuse it again, i find it on hanged state... When i move mouse then the cursor on the screen moves but i cannot open any applications...

What could be the possible solution. please suggest..

If you have set screensaver, unset it and check again.

Also please tell me how to change the position of taskbar from top of screen to the bottom. I am using ubuntu 11.04
