Compiling cairo-1.12

One of the dependencies cairo has for compiling is pixman0.22, and I already compiled and installed pixman. For some reason cairo thinks pixman is not present on my system but it is... Any suggestions as to how I can resolve this problem? I installed pixman from the instructions on http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs...al/pixman.html .

I also installed everything else on the cairo dependencies list that wasn't optional:
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs...n/x/cairo.html

I don't understand why when I try to compile & install cairo it tells me this:
Code:
checking for pixman... no
no
checking whether cairo's image surface backend feature could be enabled... no (requires pixman-1 >= 0.22.0 http://cairographics.org/releases/)
configure: error: mandatory image surface backend feature could not be enabled
when pixman is properly installed?

Code:
bash-4.1$ l /usr/include/pixman
0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 8 Apr 13 21:45 /usr/include/pixman -> pixman-1
bash-4.1$
I'm running slackware 13.37

Is there a reason for wanting cairo-1.12, rather than the 1.10 that comes with Slackware?

I was not aware that I already had it. I was getting cairo 1.12 because I was trying to compile Libre Office 3.5.2.2, but since I now have installed it from a slackware package I no longer need to compile libre office from source. Thanks.
