pckage "cairo" required by cairo" not found
i want to install gtk in mymachine. while invoking "./configure" I am getting "package cairo required by cairo not found. What to do now.
I have cairo version 1.6.4. I have also checked my cairo.pc file under /usr/lib/pkgconfig and libraries. I think have got all of them in my machine.
What to do now ?
i HAVE ALREADY TRIED "UPDATEDB"
Any help will be appreciated.

try updating the PKG_CONFIG_PATH to /usr/lib/pkgconfig
Or try installing the newer version of cairo if available.

Do you have a reason for building GTK+ from source, rather than using pre-built packages?

the reason was that i had gtk version 1.4 but my application required 2.0.
I downloaded the tar source from net and resolved the problem.

Your distro should have had packages for both GTK+ 1.x and 2.x.
