Can't Upgrade Pidgin

Hello everyone,

I'm still fairly new to this Linux thing, so any step-by-step instructions are appreciated

I've been having issues with the omega.cert on Pidgin and tried to upgrade to 2.7.7 today. I clicked on the link from the Pidgin site to download the ppa package "pidgin-ppa_0.0.3_all.deb" and tried to open with GDebi Package Installer but it tells me it couldn't be opened because an unknown error occurred.

Can anyone help me out please?

Are you running Ubuntu like your profile says?

Why are you manually downloading Pidgin instead of using Add/Remove Programs?

It's in your menu. Maybe under System or Administration. May be called Synaptic. (I don't have Ubuntu in front of me). Open it, search for Pidgin, select it and go.

Your first stop should always be the repositories. Going to the program's Web site and downloading files from them should be your last stop.

Wait, doesn't Ubuntu come with Pidgin?

Yeah it does but I'm trying to upgrade to the newest version (2.7.7) since I'm having issues with certificates.

I went to Synaptic but it's saying the newest version is 2.6.6, but that's not the case.
