Can't login to AIM account in GAIM or Kopete

I'm running Mandrake 10, and I'm trying to get IM working. I've tried both GAIM and Kopete, but for some reason I can't login to my account with either. It says Incorrect nickname or password. One of the reasons I find this curious is that I can login with the same exact screenname and password in Windows. Likewise, if I create a new account I can login using GAIM or Kopete, but just not to that one account... Any ideas on how I can login to that account?

check your versions of those im programs. it could be that the versions you're using are old versions that won't work with certain im's like yahoo or msn because they changed their ssl connection configurations.

Well you have a few options I can think of:

1. You reinstall the IM program.

2. Update the IM program.

3. Get a new login name.

4. Switch to Windows, get Trillian, and get a new login name... Dont do this one!

I am running current versions of the software: Kopete 0.8.0, which came with Mandrake 10 and Gaim v0.79, which I downloaded off the Gaim site. I have already tried creating another account, and while this works, I would still like to be able to login with my old account that I've been using for years now. Is there any reason why I could login in Windows to the account but not in Linux?
