Can't boot into Linux

Hello everyone,
I've got my system configured to boot into two different kernel versions. I have slackware 10.2 running with both a 2.4.31 kernel, and a 2.6.8 kernel. I installed the system two days ago, and it was working perfectly fine. However, for some reason now when I go to boot into the 2.6.8 kernel, the system hangs. All it does is output:

boot:
Loading Slack-2.6.8.......................

And it just sits there. Booting into the other kernel works perfectly fine. Previous to this boot attempt, everything was working fine. Does anyone know what might be wrong? Thanks in advance for any help.

I had a similar problem, it would hault right at uncompressing linux, with grub.

The problem I had was my powermanagement, I just turned it off in my kernel then every thing went hunky dory.

I don't know what caused the problem, but I fixed it by just recompiling my kernel. I guess I'm all set now... but if anybody happens to know what *was* wrong, I'd still be interested in hearing.
