Browser UI, search file names, download hits?

Is there any existing solution that provides a browser UI to enter file names (inc wildcards) and display the hits as downloadable links?

If not, are there any tools/packages that are well suited to implementing such a solution?

find and locate are obvious back-end candidates. Presumably the GUI part would be CGI-based.

I am comfortable with awk, bash and Ruby but not (yet?) with Perl or PHP.

Are you talking about searching locally, or on the web?

Thanks pixellany

It would be client-server rather than on a single machine and on a LAN is envisaged but AFAIK LAN or Internet would not make any difference to the solution ... ?
