search for printers, print to them, download and install drivers from a web browser

Hi, I am new.

I would like to start working on a project and I am looking for some guidance. I would like to have a website on the LAN with a private IP address. This website would be a place where users on the Lan could visit if they need to install a printer or switch which printer they are using. It would be cool if I could run a Linux box to host the website and allow users to just click on the printer they want to use from within the web page and have a printer driver installed, either a TCP/IP port configured or ...? Some of the printers are shared from windows XP pro desktops and others are network printers using a tcp/ip port. All the desktops are XP. I am just looking for a place to start. Does anybody have any info on a web page hosted on a Linux server that can actually download, install drivers and set up a printer as a default printer for an XP box with minimal user input?

The point is to minimize administration for printers. For example: A new PC is put on the network, rather than calling an admin to install a printer, the user could just visit the local website, and click on the printer they want to print to and after minimal input, the printer would be installed, drivers and all, and even be selected as the default printer. If the printer was out of ink, and they needed to immediately print, rather than having to open windows printers menu and select a different printer or map the network looking for a new printer, (which usually requires admin assistance) they could visit the web site, and easily choose another printer.

I know this is a complicated project and there is proprietary software that does this probably. I am looking for some direction as to how I might begin the research and what might be involved. I want to do this with open source software.

Thanks for any help you may have!
